Sometimes, inspiration comes in the strangest of ways. Several months ago, Billy got a new suit and the pants were way too long. We tried to find a local tailor to do the alterations, but were unsuccessful. After more than a month of searching, we finally decided the best thing to do, would be to do it ourselves. Neither of us had ever hemmed a pair of pants before, but we didn't let that stop us! After all, learning new things is part of what Ever Expanding Life is all about!
Besides figuring out how to do a blind stitch hem, we also had to choose the best hemline, or 'break'. Interestingly enough, choosing the break turned out to be more of a challenge than learning the actual stitch! We found the best information on the subject at Real Men Real Style. We also referenced Antonio's video in making our decision. Thanks, Antonio! Once we selected the break and learned the stitch, it was time to take action. To do the job, we utilized Billy's lower body mannequin. It was especially helpful when I marked the hem length and throughout the pinning process. Be on the lookout for Billy's upper body mannequin project, as well as my female equivalent! Our latest video, How to Hem Dress Pants with a Blind Stitch walks you through the process so that you too can do this at home. Check it out and let us know what you think! What kind of project would you like to see us tackle next?
